DON’T FORGET TO BREATHE: A GUIDE FOR PATIENTS WITH COPD AND THEIR CARERS
Ward, S., Donnelly, C., Cooper-Taylor, CD., Cooper‑Taylor, P. (2014) 2nd Edition.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), also known as chronic obstructive lung disease (COLD), or chronic obstructive respiratory disease (CORD), is rated as the sixth commonest cause of death worldwide, and in New Zealand it is the fourth commonest cause of death. It ranks high amongst the major causes of disability and profoundly affects the quality of life of its sufferers.
Estimates are that it affects 200,000 New Zealanders and up 15% of adults over the age of 45 years may have COPD; many of these people will not be aware that this is the case.
Although information can be found on the web about COPD, it is dispersed and not always easy to find, or understand. This book aims to bring relevant information together in one place and in a language COPDers and their families / whanau can understand. It is written for the New Zealand context but much of it will be relevant to COPDers world wide.
